What does a Director of IT Do? The Director of IT is responsible for most IT operations, including planning, coordinating, and carrying out all the technical functions that are ordered by a company’s VP of IT. To accomplish this, a Director of IT may meet with clients and/or end users to determine technical solutions for business needs. They are also more directly responsible for the people within the IT department. A Director of IT is in charge of the performance management, hiring, training, and firing of all IT professionals within their company. This position usually requires a Bachelor’s in computer science or a related field, as well as 8 or more years of experience in IT jobs.
