Who does an IT Manager report to? An IT Manager reports to the Director of Information Technology.
What does an IT Manager do? Depending on the size of a company, an IT manager could be responsible for most IT operations (much like a Director of IT, VP of IT, or CTO). IT Managers focus on communicating expectations, standards, and feedback to employees. They guide the IT professionals reporting to them to meet deadlines in projects. They support the IT employees below them by maintaining a safe, productive work environment. IT Managers also work with their reports to implement policies, strategies, and procedures that the Director of IT, VP of IT, and/or CIO have created. IT Manager positions tend to require a Bachelor’s in Computer Science or a related field. They also require at least 3 or 4 years relevant experience.
